10 Essential Beauty Tips For Teenage Girls

Teenage girls go through structural and hormonal changes, therefore it is important to understand what we are dealing with. Essentially good skin care should begin when you are in your teens and your body is already beginning to change dramatically. From teen acne, to oily skin, excessive sweating and dermatitis or eczema are very common teen skincare concerns, which is why teenage girls need to follow and commit to a skincare routine so they can avoid premature aging and other problems down the road.

So we are sharing 10 very essential beauty tips for teenage girls so they can practice these healthy habits early on.

Treat Your Acne

While acne can occur at any age, teens are more likely to get acne breakouts due to hormonal changes.

Generally salcylic acid helps, however in the developing years it can feel slightly harsher on the skin so teens can use face cleansers with sulfur in it to dry out the acne. If their acne is cystic and uncontrollable, your derm might recommend benzoyl peroxide face washes, creams, foams and gels are antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory. They are very helpful in acne treatment.

Don’t Dye Too Often

Always bleaching or constantly adding color stresses out your tresses. End of story. Live to dye another day.

Moisturize Always

I mean it goes without saying, no matter the season, and by the way, it’s considered blasphemy to even think that moisturizers make your skin oily in summers.

Apply moisturizer twice daily to help keep your skin supple, hydrated and to prevent premature fine lines and wrinkles.

  • Oily Skin: use a light-weight and oil-free moisturizer to prevent clogging
  • Acne-Prone: you can use gel-based moisturizers too if your skin is prone to acne.
  • Sensitive Skin: avoid moisturizers with added fragrance.

Wash off Makeup Before Going To Bed

Either you use miceller water to wipe of your makeup or double cleanse if you eventually get into it to remove dirt and oil from the surface of your skin. Sleeping with makeup on is the worst thing you can do to your skin as it only leads to clogged pores, breakouts, allergies and early aging.

Wear Sunscreen

Use a broad spectrum moisturizing sunscreen with zinc oxide (at least 7%) and an SPF of 30 or higher (depending on your skin pigmentation or color) for UVA and UVB coverage year-round.

Exfoliate Once A Week

To avoid clogged pores that results from hormonal surges, keep your skin exfoliated. Look for products that contain clay as it has natural antiseptic and astringent properties.

Chemical exfoliators containing AHAs and salicylic acid are also a great way to clean deep into your pores but it can be too early for you to use them in your teens.

You can use homemade scrubs too. To make a homemade scrub, simply mix sugar and honey. If your skin is sensitive, you can go for oatmeal mixed with honey and milk.

Take Care of Your Lips

Just like your face, your lips need care too! Apply lip balm before going to bed. You can also scrub your lips. Apply some cream on a an unused soft baby toothbrush, wet your lips and then scrub gently with the brush for a minute. Wash it and apply lip balm.

Use A Hand and Nail Cream

Your hands and nails also deserve the love and care. So you can apply a gentle hand and nail cream after washing your hands to keep them moisturized.

You Need A PM Skincare Routine

Did you know that while we are asleep our skin cells rejuvenate? Which is why wiping your face off and having a proper night time skincare routine is a must. Apply moisturizer, lip balm, and hand cream before you hit your bed.

Eat And Drink Well

Eat a balanced diet enriched with green vegetables and fruits. Avoid consuming oily food and sugary items that can aggravate your skin conditions. Look for healthier substitutes. You are what you eat and drink!

Teens are more prone to breakouts because of the change in hormones and stress. However, with a few simple skincare tips and a proper skincare routine, you can keep your skin in check.
